College of Fisheries Mangalore

<p>College of Fisheries, Mangalore is a premier fisheries education and research institution established in 1969. It holds the distinction of being the first fisheries college in India under the agricultural university system. The college is now a constituent unit of Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University (KVAFSU), Bidar, and is spread across a lush 74.69-acre campus in Yekkur Kankanady, Mangalore, Karnataka.</p><p><br></p><p>The college offers undergraduate (B.F.Sc), postgraduate (M.F.Sc), and doctoral (Ph.D.) programmes across 11 courses, with an enrolment capacity of 237 students and a faculty strength of 26. Popular M.F.Sc specialisations include Fish Processing Technology and Aquatic Environment Management, while Ph.D. programmes focus on Aquaculture and Ecology &amp; Environmental Science.</p><p><br></p><p>The campus features state-of-the-art infrastructure including departments of Aquaculture, Fishery Microbiology, Fisheries Resources and Management, and Fisheries Environment and Ecology. The Technology Wing, located at Hoige Bazar near the Nethravathi River, houses the Departments of Fish Processing Technology and Fishery Engineering.</p><p><br></p><p>The Fisheries Library is one of the best in the country with over 14,000 books, 2,700 technical reports, and 55 journals (20 international). The campus also offers extensive sports facilities including a swimming pool, gymnasium, badminton, basketball, volleyball, cricket nets, table tennis, and kabaddi courts. Separate hostels are available for male and female students.</p><p><br></p><p>Graduates have a placement rate of 60–70%, finding roles as farm managers, supervisors, senior scientists, and government officials in fisheries-related organisations across the country.</p>
